POP3 SMTP email settings authentication port
Note:- Server side means on the server - Client side refers to your own local computer
 
Email settings for your email client, such as Outlook, Outlook Express etc
 
 
    For the purposes of this guide a domain called domain.co.nz will be used to illustrate the settings  
    Technical Stuff - Basic    
    SMTP Server (Incoming mail server) domain.co.nz or mail.domain.co.nz | Port 110 unsecure Port 995 secure
       
    POP3 Server (Outgoing mail server) domain.co.nz or mail.domain.co.nz | Port 26 unsecure Port 465 secure
       
    Note if you use Ports 995 or 465 please ensure that you check the SSL options below the port settings    
     Please Note - Some ISP's are blocking SMTP port 25 - if this happens use port 26  
    User Name - alias@domain.co.nz    
     
    Visual Guide - Outlook    
    Click on Tools > then click on E-mail Accounts
         
    Click on new e-mail account or view or change existing e-mail accounts
         
    Select the radio option for POP3 e-mail server
         
    Test the Account settings - if this is working then click on 'More Settings'
       

    GENERAL TAB

    The name is how you identify the email A/C, especially if you have more than one POP3 e-mail account.

    The organisation and Reply E-mail are optional.
    If you want to use a different Reply E-mail than your POP3 email name, enter the email address here.
    Make sure you enter the email address correctly, otherwise you may not receive emails back.

     

       

    Outgoing Server

    If you are using an ISP email address, you are already authenticated when you connect to the web.
    When you send your emails from your domain email address, you to need to pass the same user name and password you have already enetred to receive emails.

    PLEASE NOTE: if you are using your ISP's POP3 server you must not check this option.

       

    CONNECTION

    If you are connected using ADSL you would normally select 'Connect using my local area network (LAN)

    If you are using dial up - use the phone line option.

       

    ADVANCED

    POP3
    Normally your POP3 server is port 110, however if you want to receive your emails securley you can use port 995 - then check the box 'This server requires and encrypted connection.
     


    SMTP - many ISP's are now blocking Port 25 because of the volume of SPAM.
    You can use Port 26 if port 25 is not working for you.

    We strongly advise you to use Port 465 - make sure you check the box 'This server requires and encrypted connection.
     


    Delivery Option - Don't leave mail on the server, unless you have a good reason for doing so.
