Fastpage CMS Updates

Fastpage version 5.25 Revision 31st Oct 2007

News item Fastpage 5.27

Menu Structure

Sub Formats
Previously you could only have one Summary Template and One Search Template layout.
Now you can define up to 99 summary and search templates layouts per menu.
This means the same data can be presented in a variety of ways on different web pages.

Example
You have an event menu but you want to display only the 1st 5 events on your home page with a link to a full event listing.
Now you can have a layout for your home page and a different layout for your events page.

Home Page Events Layout

In the above example the first 4 items are displayed on the Home Page, with a link to more events which shows the full listing plus search features.

For each layout the following can be customised:-

  • Number of results displayed
  • Search Location
  • Overflow Page links at the top
  • Overflow Page links at the bottom
  • Listing Layout Header, Body and Footer
  • Search layout

Default Image for menu Thumbnails

If you didn’t enter a thumbnail image for menu items which use thumbnails a broken link would appear on the listing.
You can now specify a default image, so when the listing is displayed and there is no image the default menu image will be used instead.

Intelligent Linking called an Ilink command

The concept behind a menu listing was to present information in a summarised format, with a link for more detailed information.
There are times when the summary listing is enough for one item or for all the menu items.

(In the example above one item has a link for more information, while the other has no link called ilink or intelligent linking)

Force Ilink Command
This will allow you to use the summary listing only without the need to enter any detailed information.

Use the Ilink Command
Some menus do not use the ilink feature so it was pointless displaying the ilink option.
Menu’s which use the ilink command will display the option at the bottom of the menu item when this is created or when you amend the menu item.

Under the admin mode if a menu item has not been selected for more detailed information, then the edit page link does not display.
Note Red Button means the item is not active.
Display Order

Menu items can be displayed as follows:-

  • Date created descending
  • Description ascending
  • Date created ascending
  • Description descending

Versions 5.23 or lower stored the menu creation date as text.
Versions 5.24 or higher now store the date as a MYSQL date format.
Any menu which uses the date sort will display a small calendar allowing you to sort items on the date

MAX FILE Upload Size
Originally Fastpage required you to resize the thumbnail, which meant thumbnails were originally very small in size.
Now Fastpage will automatically resize thumbnails which has meant increasing the max file size value, as some people were attempting to upload 3MB files.
We strongly urge you to resize the image to an acceptable size before you upload the image for the thumbnail, using FREE utilities like Google Picasso, as this will speed the insertion of images if you reduce the file size.

Revision Numbers

The version number was displayed on Fastpage, but not the revision date.
Changes in revision numbers means the MYSQL table has been changed.
Other enhancements or bug fixes which did not require the MYSQL table to be changed is now reflected by the revision number.
