| According to Will Sturgeon of Silicon.com, there have been 15 times more attacks on Messenger (MSN, AOL and Yahoo) in the past year than previous. 87% of these attacks were worms, 12% viruses, and 1% client vulnerabilities. The most common target was MSN Messenger at 62%, followed by AOL Instant Messenger at 31%, with Yahoo Messenger at 7%. It appears from the research that all the threats required some type of user intervention in order to launch, such as clicking on an attachment or a bogus link.
