If you’re a laptop user, upgrading to MS’s new operating system Vista will impact on your battery time. One hardware maker noted that Vista's "average" mode resulted in significantly lower battery life. Microsoft says it will try and improve this for laptop owners, but recommends that owners use only the 'basic' theme in Vista.
There's also a question of heat production with Vista, since graphics chips and others work at full capacity while doing just basic tasks.
We'll all be watching with interest, to see how (or if) Microsoft addresses these types of issues.
