Setting Up Spam Assassin Spam Assassin is an automated mail filter that uses a wide range of heuristic algorithms on mail headers and message body text to identify "SPAM" (unsolicited email). Once identified, the mail is tagged as SPAM for later filtering using the user's desktop mail client.
If you are fed up with SPAM we suggest you enable 'Spam Assassin' by going to your Control Panel and enabling this utility. (please not these examples are taken from the Cpanel theme 'Bluelagoon' - this is the latest Cpanel theme - if you do not have the latest Cpanel Theme - please submit a support ticket or email NZServers) To enter your Control Panel please use http://yourdomainname/cpanel or http://yourdomainame:2086/ (for a secure version) Instructions: - Click on the Mail Icon or link
- Click on Spam Assassin link
The following screen will display:-
Two status messages display - showing you if Spam Assassin is enabled or disabled. The preferable option to use is 'Enable Spam Assassin' as opposed to 'Enable Spam Box' - Click on 'Enable Spam Assassin'
This will now mark all incoming SPAM mail with the prefix of [SPAM] in the subject line of the incoming mail - At this point it is up to you with your mail client of what to do with the mail marked as [SPAM]
- Most mail clients will allow you to filter the mail by dumping the [SPAM] mail directly to the 'Deleted' folder or you can set up a 'SPAM' Folder.

Note - it is up to you to dump all the mail marked as SPAM directly into the deleted folder, but please not some spammers have used ISP's domains to send spam and accidentally these have been listed in some of the RBL blocking lists used by Spam Assassin. This means some mail will be marked as SPAM which could be a valid email.
